The performance measures a company selects have a real impact on the behaviour of investors, executives and employees. As such, performance measures need to accurately reflect investor expectations, company strategy and the ability a company has to develop value. Selecting the wrong performance measures can result in a toothless strategy, the destruction of value and employees feeling undervalued and misunderstood.
